Kantha is a popular style of embroidery which hails from West Bengal. Traditionally made by rural women, it is one of the oldest embroidery styles in the world. The word 'Kantha' which loosely translates to 'throat' and is heavily linked to Lord Shiva. The embroidered scenes typically represent day to day scenes - animals, folk scenes, fishes, and countryside. Kantha today is heavily involved in the Indian fashion scene.
