The Indian Textile Industry & Eyes of India

The Indian Textile Industry & Eyes of India

August 19, 2017

Universally admired all over the world, India is world renowned for producing unique and wonderful textile products. The textile sector in India is the second largest employer, and directly employs over 35 million people. The success of the textile industry in India is no new phenomenon either, archaeological surveys have shown that some civilisations in India were spinning cotton, over four thousand years ago. There were even block printed fabrics, which originated in India and found near the tombs of Fostat in Egypt, showing that India’s export of textiles was in full swing in medieval times. During the 17th and 18th centuries, large amounts of cotton were also exported to Western Countries which were undergoing the Industrial Revolution.

Today, many Indian Textiles are facing competition from poorer quality and synthetic substitutes which have been manufactured in other countries, such as Bangladesh, Philippines, Egypt, China and Thailand. So where do we fit in?

Eyes of India

At Eyes of India, we have been working with Indian Artisans to provide you with a collection of Indian & Bohemian pieces since 2008. Shunning the larger textile houses, we are proud to work with small scale Indian Craftsmen, who have learned their skills through generations. Operating like this allows us to bring you an unbeatable collection of unique goods. Our production house is in the city of Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, in India and we also have an office in Los Angeles, CA.  A true international business – we supply customers based all over the world.
