How to Design & Create a Bohemian Kitchen

July 05, 2017

The Kitchen can be one of the most sterile and soulless rooms in a home, alternatively – it can be one of the warmest, most welcoming rooms in your home. So ditch the plain color schemes and inject some color into your kitchen with Bohemian influences. A Bohemian Kitchen delivers a relaxing, happy interior which not only welcomes your visitors, but also the time you spend cooking and socialising in t

Color Schemes

Mixing & matching color schemes is a guaranteed way to add a bohemian element to your kitchen space. Remember that Bohemian interiors draw upon most colors, and the fact that they don't all match perfectly is what helps make a bohemian interior so unique.

Ensure to carry on your color scheme throughout your range of appliances. Different color ovens, kettle, fridges or toasters and dinnerware all look fantastic. Patterned tiles are also a great way to instantly add texture, patterns and color.

Cushions do a fantastic job of 'softening' a kitchen. In a room usually full of hard spaces they offer a great and soft place to park your bottom whilst socialising, eating and relaxing. These cushions also represent an important opportunity to inject color and design. In our opinion, Kantha cushions are perfectly suited to kitchens. All of our Kantha cushions originate from Uttar Pradesh, India and boast lively printed and stitched covers. They are available in 100's of different styles.

Fixtures & Fittings

Whilst your kitchen fittings will have more than likely been supplied with your kitchen, if you look at them closely – they aren't exactly unique are they. How much do they tell someone about your personality? Fighting the battle against 'brushed chrome' is our range of Bohemian Knobs, Hooks & Handles. The collection includes everything from Ganesh Wall Hooks, Naga Serpent Cabinet Pulls and Ceramic Cupboard Knobs.

If there's ever a room which has a hard floor, it's the kitchen! No nice warm carpets here. Luckily, Bohemian rugs offer the perfect solution to protecting your kitchen floor, whilst adding flair and style. Chindi Rugs are our personal favourite for these spaces, these rag rugs offer the perfect solution for adding vibrant colors and patterns into your kitchen.

Our regular readers will know of our obsession with tapestries! We absolutely love seeing where our customers use them in their home, and we have certainly learnt that they are one of the most diverse products on the market. We are seeing more and more of our tapestries used as pin up blinds in kitchens, as well as seeing them used as table clothes, who'd have thought it!? Their bold designs and colors enhance any kitchen space.

Ditch the Dining Table

The lists of benefits from eating on the floor is well known, it helps digestion, flexibility and creates a true feeling of equality. A lot of our customers understand the benefits of socialising, and eating on the floor – and Mandala Floor Cushions offer the perfect combination of comfort and style. Our favourite is the oversize Mandala Square Floor Pillow, seen below.

Over to you…

However you choose to decorate your home and your kitchen is entirely up to you. Remember with bohemian interiors there is no boundaries, and most certainly no right or wrong.
